I have no idea where they went! But I found a backup I made a few days prior that contained them all, so I pasted them back in and now everything (MYSQL, drush, MAMP and Drupal) are all working Ok again. This sometimes leads to a problem where, after restarting the machine MAMP can start the Apache Server, but can not start the MySQL server for some reason. Quit every process you find after your search. I had to hard reset my computer while MAMP was still running. For example, if the data directory is /usr/local/mysql/var, use this command: > ls -la /usr/local/mysql/var. Change location to the data directory and check the ownership of the data directory and its contents to make sure the server has access. Type 'mysqld' into the search field on the top right. You can also start the server as root, but this raises security issues and should be avoided. Open the Activity Monitor located in your /Applications/Utilities folder. It turns out that there were files and sub-directories missing from my MAMP/db/mysql57 folder.
